It’s summer time, and the reading is breezy.

Mark asked those of us with the Thoughtwrestling community to share what we’d be reading this summer.  I figured it would be only polite to invite you to my back porch to chat about it.

In case you can’t see the video here, you can click on the link below to be able to watch it:

The books I’ve reviewed are:

A Creative Companion by SARK

A fun, playful workbook for unlocking and connecting to your free, childlike creative spirit.

The Right to Write by Julia Cameron

My favorite writing inspiration book, this is a series of essays on the writing life with writing prompts.  You could use it as a DIY writer’s workshop.  I use it to give myself permission to write when the rest of life pushes writing aside.

ScreamFree Parenting by Hal Runkel, LMFT

A very different approach to a parenting book, this is more principles than rules.  The basic idea is that if you can keep yourself calm, and don’t need your kids’ good behavior to feel okay, you can parent more effectively.

Zen Shorts by Jon J Muth

A sweet, beautifully illustrated children’s book that tucks zen koans into a story about three kids who have a panda bear move in next door.  Moral stories with a light touch that are more about how you think than what you think.  Thoughtwrestling for the elementary school set!

Great idea to do it as a video! I’ll have to track down the Right to Write. That’s one I haven’t read yet.

I probably need to finally break down and read “The Artist’s Way.” And King’s “On Writing.” Really, could do a whole second post on new books I *want* to read.

Definitely need to check out the Cameron book and SARK as well. I keep hearing about this SARK person and I’m really curious now.

SARK is kind of hard to take if you’re not REALLY comfortable with rainbows and a rather alarming level of optimism. And a lot of her stuff is aimed more towards women. But if you’re looking to reconnect with your inner kindergartener… it’s good stuff!
