Even More Ultra Inspiring Blogs About Creativity and Idea Generation

lightning strikesI did a review of 22 Ultra Inspiring Blogs About Creativity and Idea Generation on Broadcasting Brain some time ago. You can click on that link to check those out.

I felt it was time to update that list by adding more good blogs that I’ve found since then.  You can always check out the original list on Broadcasting Brain but here are even more great ones to check out.

Please note that I’m crossing over into spaces like innovation and other interesting things with this new list, but I think you’ll find the material interesting and useful.

Here we go!

43folders.comMerlin Mann‘s most famous blog is a kind of odd duck.  For years it was a top tier productivity/great work resource, basically competing against blogs like Lifehacker.  But that all changed in 2008 with Merlin’s post Better, in which he seemed to renounce his obsession with productivity and instead focusing on the quality of creative work and helping people find their way to that creative state.  Merlin doesn’t post there much these days, but when he does it’s interesting and thought provoking.  The archives are still great, too.

The 99% - This website is part of a creative thinktank and community from the folks at Behance.  Lots of great articles about creative work here.  What’s also interesting is that when you subscribe to the 99% RSS feed, you get some curation in addition to 99% content.  I swear I’ve seen some of Seth Godin‘s posts in the feed, as an example.  Eclectic and interesting.

Strangling My MuseSandy Ackers‘s blog is a recent find.  She writes about creativity, inspiration, and creative blockage.  Pretty cool stuff, worth checking out.

The Great Work BlogMichael Bungay Stanier of Box of Crayons is the main force behind this fun website.  Michael’s an earnest bundle of enthusiasm and he loves to interview creative thinkers and entrepreneurs, which he publishes as podcasts through this website (and iTunes).  He also publishes inspiring quotes and stories intermingled with the occasional video.  Somehow I always find things here that help buoy my spirits.

Accidental CreativeTodd Henry‘s website also features a combination of articles and interviews devoted to making sure creative folks remain productive, healthy, and inspired to do their best work.  I love one of their catch phrases:  ”Cover bands don’t change the world.”

Innovation Tools – I’ve just started checking out this website but I love the variety of articles about innovation, creative problem solving, etc.

Creative ThinkRoger von Oech, author of the creative thinking classic A Whack To The Side of the Head, holds court here.  C’mon, you know it will be great stuff.

Scott Berkun – I’ve only recently discovered Scott’s blog (he’s written three books on project management, innovation, and public speaking) but I wish I’d found it sooner.  Great eclectic collection of material.

Have we missed any great, thought provoking, and mentally stimulating blogs?  Tell us in the comments!

Thanks for including me in this roundup, Mark! I’m honored to be in such good company — and I’m looking forward to checking out some of the blogs here that I haven’t seen.

    G’Day Mark,
Time for a spot of heresy. I decided years ago that “creativity” was like “objectivity.”

It’s a word not an attainable state. And, like beauty, it’s in the eye of the beholder. Having said that, I recommend Julie’s “Writing Roads.”

I don’t know whether it’s creative or not. But it makes me smile. I enjoy it.

    Regards

So out of curiosity, Leon, is there a generic term that can be used for the act of dreaming up new ideas, then perhaps a second word to describe the process of working to make those ideas take form?

        Mark,
This isn’t original but I like the notion that the first is creativity and the second is innovation.

Just make sure you have fun.

        Regards
        Leon
